Eco Design- Tiny House

The Living Bud in Vancouver (School Project)

The Living Bud is a residential project designed to meet the rigorous standards of the Living Building Challenge. Inspired by the organic form of a flower bud, the house takes on a distinctive bud shape, encircled by a spiraling ribbon structure. This spiral not only enhances the aesthetic but also optimizes the functionality of the integrated solar energy and rainwater collection systems, allowing for efficient energy and water use.

The interior is thoughtfully laid out across two circular floors, with the bedroom located on the upper level. The ground floor features an enclosed bathroom near the entrance, while the main living area flows seamlessly between the open-concept kitchen, dining, and living spaces. This design combines sustainable innovation with modern living, creating a harmonious environment that emphasizes energy efficiency and water conservation.

The Eco System

The design of this tiny house maximizes natural sunlight by incorporating windows around the entire structure, ensuring ample daylight throughout the space. Additionally, a solar tube installed on the roof further enhances natural lighting, reducing the need for artificial light during the day.

To meet the Living Building Challenge, this tiny house also includes an efficient rainwater collection system. An extended spiral structure captures rainwater and directs it through pipes into a storage tank. The collected rainwater is then filtered and pumped to the bathroom, where it is repurposed for toilet flushing, promoting water conservation and supporting sustainable living.

The Sun Study

Sunlight is always a precious resource in Vancouver, especially during the long winter months when we crave every ray. In this tiny house, natural light is abundant—sunshine fills the space whenever the sun is in the sky, ensuring a bright and uplifting environment year-round.

Floor Plans

Living in a round house is an adventure! While arranging the space takes a little creativity, this two-story tiny home packs in all the essentials. Downstairs, you’ll find a compact kitchen and an open dining-living area, plus a snug bathroom with a shower tucked by the entrance—everything you need, right at your fingertips!

Upstairs is a cozy little retreat, just right for a comfy bed and a few wall cabinets. It’s a charming hideaway for one, offering comfort, character, and the perfect mix of snug and spacious.
